Weaving the Dream!
by Penny McManigal

The Weaving The Dream! world project was a part of the Opening and the Closing Ceremonies of the Gather The Women Congress. Its purpose was to serve as a three dimensional visual co-creative process to demonstrate the essential qualities of building community on our interrelated and diverse planet. This particular Weave was the 36th, others having been co-created at in the United States, England, Russia, Australia, Peru and China. Of course each one has had its own distinct character, adapted to the purpose of each gathering. This particular co-creation was both woven and unwoven in the shortest time I had ever experienced. It was therefore a breathtaking cliff-hanger for me as the process of The Weave began with very little introduction.

Watching 300+ women honor the Intention without much guidance and beholding their mindfulness, respect, self-regulation, adaptability and cooperative spirit was personally a great relief to me but also a great indicator that the women were gathered at the Congress to work together for the greatest good, however that might be presented. Watching each woman weave her piece (peace) of colorful cloth into our shared planet, complete with a glorious background of music and drumming was beautiful to behold. My hope is that the cloth that each woman removed from The Weave to take home will be honored as a reminder of ALL we shared together. My deep gratitude to each of you for helping to make it work... because... There is no weave if there are no weavers!
